Preparing For Court - 4 Tips

The idea of going to court can be a daunting prospect. Litigation has garnered a bad reputation over the years for being time-consuming and expensive, and many people balk at the idea of having to bring their case to court. At O'Donnell Law Center, we understand these concerns and do everything we can to resolve your case without a trial first. Of course, sometimes litigation is the only viable option for bringing your case to a conclusion, and when that happens, we work very hard to earn your satisfaction.

In these instances, you can count on our experienced attorney at the Lake of the Ozarks to help alleviate the stress of litigation as much as possible. In keeping with our mission, we're dedicating this week's blog to a few simple but important tips to help you prepare for a day in court.

1. Get Plenty Of Sleep The Night Before

No matter whether you're the plaintiff or the defendant, it is perfectly normal to be anxious during the days leading up to your first court date. Though you may find you have difficulty sleeping, it's important to get plenty of rest the night before your court date. Without proper rest, you may find it more difficult to remain calm and collected in court.

2. Dress Professionally

Courtrooms are governed by dress codes. In fact, failure to obey the dress code can result in you being unable to enter the courtroom. To avoid this problem, wear dressy casual or professional business attire for your court appearance.

3. Arrive Early

When it comes to the court system, timeliness is crucial. In order to avoid being late to your court date, we recommend planning to arrive at least fifteen or twenty minutes early. This will give you plenty of time to park, get through security, and find your way to the courtroom. Navigating these unfamiliar places may take more time than you anticipate, so you would be wise to have extra time built into your schedule.

4. Ask Your Attorney What To Expect

Every court case is different; it's impossible to predict exactly how the proceedings will go. Nevertheless, your lawyer in Camden County MO will have represented several clients in similar positions and should be able to give you a good general idea of what to expect. Eliminating some of these unknowns will help you gain confidence for the upcoming court proceedings.
